The new edition of Mrs Beeton’s everyday cookery book, with nearly 2500 recipes. Isabella Beeton was a nineteenth century journalist, editor, and writer, best-known for her work on household management. Alongside nearly 2500 recipes, the volume includes sections on laundry, carving, table decorations, and beverages. With the publisher’s adverts to the rear, including the rear paste down.
Illustrated with chromolithographic plates and numerous engravings in the text. Index. Advertisements. Later, undated edition; originally published in 1866 by Ward. Lock, and Tyler; a “New & Revised” edition was issued in 1890, with 568 pages. One of the many works extracted from (though quite hefty itself) Mrs. Beeton’s massive Victorian household dictionary and cookbook, The Book of Household Management (1861). Contains a section at rear containing “Brief Descriptions” (really recipes) of the items depicted in the colour plates.

A hard cover edition with dark olive green boards, gilt and black blocked decoration and gilt titles to spine and front. Trade adverts to front and back. Colour plates and mono plates throughout. New Edition. There is a previous seller’s paper label on the inside front cover. There is foxing and toning throughout but the text and illustrations are clear and legible. There is rubbing, wear and scuffing to the edges of the book. The binding is loose and the spine has partially detached.
